9" Fine Bubble Diffuser
The 9" disc diffuser is an aeration element laid out as a grid on the floor of biological treatment basins, releasing air into the water as fine bubbles through thousands of micro slits in its membrane. The 6,800 slits spread across a 230 mm effective diameter distribute air over a wide surface and maximise the air-water contact area. Because smaller bubbles dissolve more oxygen from the same volume of air, blower energy draw falls directly — and since aeration typically accounts for more than half of a treatment plant's total electricity use, that difference is clearly felt in annual operating cost. The membrane flexes to open its slits under air pressure and closes them when pressure stops. This one-way behaviour prevents sludge from flowing back into the diffuser body when the system shuts down and removes the risk of blockage at restart. Membrane material is selected between EPDM and silicone: EPDM is the economical, durable choice for general domestic wastewater, while silicone gives longer life in industrial applications with high fat and grease loads or fluctuating temperature. Laid at even spacing across the basin floor it delivers homogeneous air distribution, leaving no dead zones and preventing sludge from settling in corners. The main factor governing service life is the cleanliness of the inlet air. Oil and dust carried by unfiltered air gradually narrow the slits, pressure loss rises and the blower has to work harder. Regular air filter maintenance is the cheapest measure that protects the return on a diffuser investment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I choose EPDM or silicone?
EPDM is usually sufficient and more economical for domestic wastewater. In industrial effluent with high fat and grease loads or fluctuating temperature, silicone gives markedly longer life.
How densely are diffusers laid on the floor?
Spacing is calculated from the required oxygen demand, basin depth and target air flow. Even coverage across the whole floor is essential to avoid dead zones.
When should the membrane be replaced?
A permanent rise in system pressure at the same air flow, together with uneven bubble distribution, indicates that replacement is due.
