CBDD80-3" Coarse Bubble Diffuser
The CBDD80 coarse bubble diffuser is designed for stages that need mixing energy and clog resistance rather than transfer efficiency. The micro slits that release air in fine bubble diffusers tend to block over time in environments rich in solids and fibres. Coarse bubble diffusers release air through larger openings, so that risk effectively disappears. The large bubbles rise quickly and create a strong vertical current that keeps the tank contents in constant motion and prevents solids from settling. In equalisation tanks this translates directly into easier operation: with no accumulation of settled solids, the need for periodic draining and cleaning drops markedly. The same logic applies in sludge thickening tanks and pre-aeration stages. At 46 mm overall height and 0.04 kg the unit is very compact, and its 3/4" male thread outlet connects straight to the air header with standard fittings. It offers 0.02 m² of effective area over a 60 mm effective diameter and works in the 2-25 m³/h range. The EPDM membrane closes when pressure stops, preventing sludge ingress during shutdown. Its biggest maintenance advantage is that, unlike fine bubble systems, it needs no chemical cleaning — a meaningful operational benefit on unmanned or infrequently visited sites.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can coarse bubble diffusers be used in biological basins?
They can, but transfer efficiency is lower than fine bubble and energy cost rises in the biological stage. Their real domain is tanks that need mixing.
Is chemical cleaning required?
No. Because air is released through large openings, clogging effectively does not occur and the periodic chemical cleaning of fine bubble systems is not needed.
